About the EU
Proclaiming Jesus as Lord
What is the EU?
The Sydney University Evangelical Union (EU) is a student club at the University of Sydney.
We were formed in 1930 and believe that Jesus is both Lord and Christ.
What we’re on about
In the EU we’re all about helping Sydney University students come to know Jesus, to be followers of Him, and to see change in their lives in order to glorify God in all that they do. We welcome everyone to come and be part of our activities, and encourage all Christians studying at Sydney Uni to join us!
We offer opportunities for students to gather together on campus for Covid-safe activities that enable us to:
Engage in bible study in smaller groups
Gather together for public Bible talks
Socialise with others
Be trained for Christian service
We believe that the good news about forgiveness in Jesus is offered to all people, so we invite all students to come and visit our gatherings to hear what the Bible says about the claims of Jesus. We’re convinced that a life spent following Jesus brings meaning, purpose, joy, satisfaction and hope to our lives.
The best way to understand EU is in terms of our goals, or as we call them, our three objects, which direct all our activities:
To present students with the Christian Gospel and to lead them to a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
To strengthen Christians in their faith and witness and to encourage them to continually submit every aspect of their life to the Lordship of Christ.
To ensure that Christians in the University are made aware of the nature, needs and challenge of Christian service at home and abroad.
Each of the objects springs from the wonderful, life-giving Lordship of Jesus. And because they reflect what God has done and is doing, they define us a group and give shape to everything we do.
We are one of the most active clubs on campus, with several hundred students regularly participating in our activities. Details of our 2024 Faculty Communities are here - we would love to have you join us!
